Hubby, in-laws held 10 months after dowry death
LUCKNOW, Aug. 2 -- Nearly 10 months after a woman died allegedly after being forced to drink acid over dowry demands, police arrested her husband and parents-in-law from under Madiaon bridge here on Friday, authorities said.
The trio had been absconding since the death of Kusuma alias Sapna, who succumbed at the hospital, according to a release issued by the police.
Acting on a tip-off, the police team apprehended her husband Ajay, 27, father-in-law Jamuna Prasad, 49, and mother-in-law Jaidevi alias Rita, 49, -- all residents of Rai Madore village in Sitapur district, an official said. They had been hiding in a rented accommodation near a garden in Madiaon, he added.
A complaint in this regard was lodged by the victim's father, Itwari Lal, on October 12, 2024. He alleged that his daughter's in-laws harassed her over dowry demands, ultimately forcing acid down her throat. Based on the complaint, the FIR was registered under sections 115(2), 123, 85, 80(2) of the BNS and the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Police said they were verifying the criminal history of the accused....
