Hubaida-Ale ensure a historical medal for India
LUCKNOW, June 21 -- Lucknow's Abu Hubaida and Prem Ale of Maharashtra on Friday created a history, becoming the first pair from India to confirm a medal in wheel chair category of the Asian Para Badminton Championship at Thailand, defeating the local pair of A Sai Len and A Sriboran in straight games at Thailand.
The India duo of Hubaida and Ale won by 21-12, 21-12 in the quarterfinal. Even if they lose in the semi-finals, they will be entitled to grab a bronze medal in the category. "It's historic as no Indian has ever won a medal in a wheelchair category in a competition like World Championships, Olympics and Asian Championships," Indian para badminton coach Gaurav Khanna said from Thailand.
"It's a great moment for all of us that this is the first time ever since the Badminton World Federation has taken over para badminton too," said Khanna.
Uttar Pradesh finished top in the Sanda category of the 34th National Senior Wushu Competition at Jaipur on Friday, winning seven gold, one silver and nine bronzes. The medal winners included Bhanu Singh, Ravi, Rishabh, Shruti Saravaiya, Ginni, Abhishek etc....
