Honey trap, blackmail in Sambhal, 2 held
Meerut, Dec. 4 -- The Sambhal police on Wednesday arrested two women accused of laying a honey trap and blackmailing the brother of a rape victim in an attempt to force a compromise in an ongoing court case.
Both accused have been produced before the court and sent to jail, while police are searching for two more accomplices linked to the incident.
The case originates from the Nakhasa police station area. In 2023, four individuals had allegedly snared a young man in a honey trap, and one of them later raped his sister. The rape case is currently under judicial consideration.
Seeking to influence the legal proceedings, the two arrested women allegedly targeted the victim's brother and extorted Rs.1 lakh from him under the guise of facilitating a settlement.
According to the police, the women later demanded an additional Rs.4 lakh. When the youth refused, they approached the police with a fabricated complaint and presented a false narrative in an attempt to implicate him.
Inspector Sanjeev Baliyan took the complaint seriously and summoned the youth for questioning. During the inquiry, the truth emerged. The youth revealed that the accused had been blackmailing him through a female associate in an attempt to pressure his family into agreeing to a compromise in the rape case.
Inspector Baliyan confirmed that a case of blackmailing and honey-trapping has been registered against four individuals. The arrested women have been identified as Tehasu, daughter of Jagraj Singh, a resident of Mandi Kishan Das Sarai under Kotwali Sambhal, and Zainab, daughter of Aftab, a resident of Narottam Sarai in the Nakhasa area. Both were produced in court and subsequently sent to jail.
Police have lodged a report under Sections 308(5), 248(A), 351(3), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and efforts are on to apprehend the remaining accused....
