Homestay policy to boost religious tourism, job avenues in Ayodhya
LUCKNOW, Aug. 23 -- Religious tourism in the temple town is set to get a boost with the Uttar Pradesh government's new Bed and Breakfast and Homestay Policy-2025, approved in June this year.
The policy simplifies the registration process for applicants and is expected to create jobs at the local level, officials said.
A district-level committee headed by the district magistrate and police chief has begun vetting application forms, following initial verification by the Ayodhya Municipal Corporation.
"The new homestay policy will not only boost religious tourism in Ayodhya but will also open job avenues at the local level," mayor Girishpati Tripathi said.
"Only a small fee is being charged to register homestays in rural areas, ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 750.
For urban and silver-category homestays, the application fee has been fixed at Rs 2,000," he added.
Currently, Ayodhya has around 250 homestays, ranging from one to six rooms.
Under the new policy, each homestay can have a maximum of six rooms and 12 beds.
