LUCKNOW, Dec. 7 -- Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday declared that the Home Guards have evolved far beyond their traditional identity as an auxiliary force, emerging as a central pillar in maintaining law and order and supporting public safety operations across the state. Speaking at the 63rd Foundation Day celebrations of the Uttar Pradesh Home Guards, the chief minister said, "They are an essential strength of the government and a trusted force of society," he said. CM Yogi said that over 4,000 young volunteers have also been trained as Disaster Mitras, bolstering the state's first-response capabilities. He emphasised that the enhanced visibility and responsibilities of the force reflect the state government's renewed focus on strengthening the institution. "Earlier, Home Guards were neglected. Today, they are receiving recognition at the highest levels, with multiple personnel being honored by the President and the Union Home Ministry," he said. The chief minister also reiterated ongoing welfare measures-including increased allowances, accident insurance support, new office buildings, staff housing projects, and proposals for cashless healthcare-aimed at improving service conditions for the force. He noted that recruitment for 45,000 positions is underway and that priority will be given to posting soldiers in their home districts to improve local response efficiency.
