History-sheeter in police net after extortion bid
Lucknow, Dec. 3 -- An attempt to extract Hafta from a cloth shop owner led to the arrest of a notorious history-sheeter in Lucknow by the Banthra police on Monday.
"Police said Arpit Patel alias Tera, 30, walked into Captain Cloth House in Latifnagar, abused the staff, and demanded protection money before being tracked down and arrested within two hours of the complaint," said the police in their press note on Tuesday.
According to the FIR filed by complainant Vimlesh Kumar Yadav, the accused confronted his brother at their shop around evening and issued life threats when his demand for illegal payment was refused. Police immediately registered an FIR under Sections 352, 308(5), 351(3) of the BNS at Banthra police station. "A special police team was formed and launched a rapid search operation. Patel was later arrested from Rahimnagar Padiana," said Rajneesh Verma, ACP Krishna Nagar.
According to the ACP, during interrogation, Patel admitted to being addicted to drugs and said he sought money for personal and material needs. He also claimed to have thrown away his country-made pistol after learning that a case had been lodged.
Investigators revealed that Patel is a history-sheeter of the Banthra police station area with a long criminal trail. With 14 cases registered in different police stations, his record includes cases of theft, robbery, assault, and gangster activity registered at GRP Charbagh, Aashiana, Chinhat, and Banthra between 2017 and 2025....
