Highest DDP: 3 east UP districts on list of top ten
Lucknow, May 27 -- Three districts from the eastern region (Poorvanchal) of Uttar Pradesh figure among the state's top 10 districts with the highest district domestic product (DDP), hinting towards growth efforts and bringing down the regional imbalance.
UP's top 10 districts with highest DDP include five districts of eastern region - Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Agra, Meerut, Bareilly and two districts of central region including Lucknow and Kanpur Nagar besides the three districts of east UP- Prayagraj, Gorakhpur and Varanasi.
UP's GSDP which is estimated to have reached Rs 25.62 lakh crore (on current prices) includes contribution of Rs 12.43 lakh crore (48.51% of GSDP) from districts of west UP, Rs 7.07 lakh crore (27.59%) from east UP districts, Rs 4.77 lakh crore (18.63%) from central UP districts and Rs 1.35 lakh crore (5.27%) from the districts of Bundelkhand region. "Yes, we are making efforts to bring down the regional imbalance. We have worked on 70-plus indicators this time to work out the district development product to portray the real picture," said Alok Kumar III, principal secretary, planning.
Kumar said the DDP data for 2023-2024 clearly shows that the trajectory of economic growth is no longer limited to a few districts and is now spreading across the state. He said all the districts have recorded positive growth rates and the districts with highest growth rates include Mahoba (23.50%), Chitrakoot (23.40%) Banda (21.22%), Kasganj (2.20%) and Mainpuri (20.47%). Of the top 10 districts, Gautam Buddha Nagar (Rs 2.63 lakh crore) is on top while Lucknow (Rs 1.41 lakh crore) and Ghaziabad (Rs 1.17 lakh crore) are at second and third place, respectively.
UP's 10 districts that figure at the bottom on the list of 75 districts in terms of DDP include Kasganj (Rs 15470.31 crore), Kannauj (Rs 15408.58 crore), Mau (Rs 15064.75 crore), Mahoba (Rs 14688.30 crore), Kaushambi (Rs 14404.20 crore), Bhadohi (Rs 13014.13 crore), Auraiya (Rs 12257.34 crore), Sant Kabir Nagar (Rs 12091.17 crore), Chitrakoot (Rs 11634.02 crore) and Shravasti (Rs 8593.28 crore).
Another interesting aspect of the DDP data for 2023-2024 is per capita income. In Gautam Buddha Nagar, the per capita income has reached Rs 10.17 lakh which is significantly higher than the national average of Rs 1.84 lakh. At the same time districts that include Lucknow and Ghaziabad have surpassed the Rs 2 lakh per capita income threshold.
