LUCKNOW, Sept. 6 -- Uttar Pradesh higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyay on Friday visited injured workers of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at King George's Medical University (KGMU) where they are receiving treatment after the police lathi-charge at Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University, Barabanki during a protest on Monday. The minister asked the injured students about their well-being and the medical arrangements During the meeting, the students showed the minister a video and briefed him about how they were brutalised even after raising their problems peacefully. The minister said that the state government stands in solidarity with the students and those who ignored their demands, concerns and interests will not be tolerated. He said that looking at the injured students, it is clear that the lathi-charge was a completely inhuman and brutal act. The minister said that the policemen involved in this incident have been suspended and the divisional commissioner of Ayodhya has been instructed to investigate the matter of extension and renewal of LLB courses on SRMU Barabanki campus. "Strictest action will be taken on the basis of whatever facts will come out in the investigation," the minister assured the injured ABVP workers. "An FIR has been lodged against the university administration by higher education council secretary Dinesh Rajput," he said.
