High tension wire kills Deoria man, groom escapes mishap
Gorakhpur, Dec. 2 -- A wedding celebration turned tragic in Haraiya village under Jangha police station limits of the district on Sunday night, when a chariot in the wedding procession came in contact with a high-tension electricity line.
According to local sources, the chariot, carrying several men, passed dangerously close to an 11 kV high tension line, resulting in a fatal electric shock.
Sachin, 21, a resident of Samda in Deoria, died on the spot after being electrocuted. Four other guests sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital.
The groom narrowly escaped after jumping off the chariot moments before the incident.
Station house officer Jayant Kumar said, "As the chariot moved forward, the overhead wire brushed against it, causing a sudden electric shock that led to the fatality."
"A case has been registered, and an investigation has begun to determine lapses in safety measures," the police officer said ....
