Dehradun, Sept. 9 -- A high-level inter-ministerial central team (IMCT) of the Union government on Monday arrived in Uttarakhand and carried out an on-site inspection of disaster-affected areas in Dharali and Harsil in Uttarkashi district, and Tharali in Chamoli district to assess the damage and review ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts. The team, led by Union home ministry joint secretary R Prasanna, first landed at the Army Helipad in Harsil where they were received by district magistrate Prashant Arya and superintendent of police Sarita Dobhal. DM Arya briefed the delegation on the extent of damage to life and property across the district. During the visit, the central team inspected the affected villages of Mukhba, Harsil and Dharali, and interacted with local residents, who highlighted losses to houses, hotels, apple orchards, crops and businesses and demanded swift compensation, employment, and rehabilitation. The team also reviewed the damage to infrastructure including roads, bridges, public buildings, power and water supply lines, as well as agriculture, livestock and other sources of livelihood. The team was also apprised of relief operations undertaken during the disaster, such as supply of food, drinking water, medical aid and temporary shelters. Prasanna said the team is compiling information on the loss of life and property through the local administration and will soon submit a report to the Centre. "The report will cover damages to houses, land, crops and livelihoods, based on which a relief package will be finalised," he said. Terming the visit an important step in ensuring prompt assistance, DM Arya said the inspection is part of the joint efforts of the central and state governments to restore normalcy in the affected areas....
