High court to expand Hindi access to all its non-AFR judgments
LUCKNOW/PRAYAGRAJ, March 18 -- On its 160th establishment day on Tuesday, the Allahabad High Court announced that it will translate into Hindi all non-AFR (Approved For Reporting) final judgments/ orders (running into three pages or more) delivered from March 17, 2026, onwards by all courts (both Allahabad & Lucknow) in addition to the AFR judgments of the court as well as of cases of judgments of the Supreme Court in cases arising from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
The Registrar General of the Allahabad High Court said the decision was taken on the eve of establishment of 160 years of the high court which was established in 1866. The Hindi translation of these judgments/orders will also be digitally available on the court's website.
The initiative marks a significant milestone aiming at bridging language barriers for litigants, lawyers and the common people, said the high court. This translation project is being carried out by SUVAS Cell, Allahabad & Lucknow under the patronage of the Chief Justice and guidance of Al-Assisted Legal Translation Advisory, e-AHCR and ILR Committee.
This step will ensure that justice is not just delivered but truly understood by every citizen, regardless of linguistic background, said the high court. The decision comes amid growing demands for multilingual judicial resources, especially in a diverse state like Uttar Pradesh....
