PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 13 -- The Allahabad high court on Friday granted interim protection, staying the arrest of Shubham Jaiswal, accused of illegal codeine-based cough syrup (CBCS) trafficking racket in Uttar Pradesh, till December 17. Jaiswal is the suspected kingpin of a large cross-border narcotics network allegedly built on fake companies and forged documents. He had filed a writ petition challenging the FIR registered in the case. Hearing a writ petition filed by Shubham Jaiswal, a division bench comprising Justice Siddhartha Varma and Justice Achal Sachdev directed to hear the state counsel on the next date on December 17. Shubham and his father, Bhola Prasad, were accused of engineering a high-volume supply chain, moving codeine-laced cough syrup from stock points in Ghaziabad and Varanasi to Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Many shell firms were reportedly used to disguise illegal consignments as legitimate pharmaceutical shipments.
