High court advocate attacked inside police station, FIR lodged
PRAYAGRAJ, May 21 -- Following a brief altercation between policemen and an advocate at Civil Lines police station on Tuesday, a police clerk allegedly punched the advocate, injuring his nose and causing bleeding. As news of the incident spread, dozens of fellow lawyers rushed to the police station and created a ruckus. They staged a sit-in protest inside the station, demanding immediate action against the accused policeman.
ACP Shyamjit Singh reached the spot and pacified the protesting lawyers. An FIR was later registered against constable Virendra Kumar on the complaint of injured advocate Pankaj Tripathi, police officials confirmed.
According to reports, Allahabad high court advocate Pankaj Tripathi was allegedly attacked earlier on Tuesday by over half a dozen unidentified individuals near the Hanuman Mandir intersection. Following the incident, Tripathi went to Civil Lines police station to file a complaint.
Later, a named FIR was registered based on Tripathi's complaint, after which the protest was called off.
An 18-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself inside a room of her house in a village under the Ghoorpur police station in the trans-Yamuna area of the district on Tuesday afternoon. She reportedly took the extreme step after her lover refused to marry her.
According to police, a meeting of village elders and family members from both sides was underway at the woman's house to discuss the marriage when the youth refused the proposal.
Locals said the woman had been in a relationship with the man, a resident of the same village, for the past four years.
Family members told police that as soon as the woman learned that the man had declined to marry her, she rushed to a room and hanged herself using her dupatta. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Confirming the incident, SHO Dinesh Singh said the family has not yet submitted any formal complaint against the youth. "Legal action will be taken based on the postmortem report," he added.
Motorcycle-borne unidentified miscreants looted cash worth Rs 85,700 from a recovery agent of a private finance company near Manethu village under Baharia police station area in trans-Ganga region of the district on Tuesday afternoon. The miscreants also took away the mobile phone of the recovery agent with them. On receiving the information, police reached the site and launched a search for the miscreants but in vain.
As per the police complaint, Shashi Humar Mishra, a resident of Raniganj in Pratapgarh district, works as a recovery agent in a private finance company.
