Helpline promotion, app to serve seniors better
Lucknow, Nov. 29 -- The social welfare department organised a review meeting of the Uttar Pradesh State Senior Citizens Policy 2016 at the Directorate of Social Welfare, in order to provide a strong foundation for the welfare, security, and respect of senior citizens, on Friday.
The meeting was chaired by B Venkateshwarlu, additional chief secretary of the social welfare department. Shyampal Singh, chairman of the Senior Citizens General Committee, and Kumar Prashant, director of social welfare, were also present. The meeting discussed in detail the suggestions, demands, and proposals presented by the Senior Citizens General Committee at its annual convention held on April 23, 2025.
Additionally, the department-wise review of the directives issued by the State Council of Senior Citizens held on March 17, 2023 was also done. Discussions focused on more effective implementation of the Senior Citizens Policy-2016. The department prioritised issues such as strengthening senior citizens' committees, establishing new daycare centres, and increasing the welfare fund. The information department emphasised promoting the helpline 14567 (implemented by all states/UTs which operates on all seven days of the week from 8 am to 8 pm. The vision of the Elderline is to connect and engage with senior citizens and serve them in a compassionate manner) and the Savera app. The health department emphasised providing priority medical services and organising health camps for senior citizens.htc...
