Jaipur, Aug. 23 -- Torrential rains continued to wreak havoc across Rajasthan on Friday, throwing normal life out of gear in Kota, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, and Baran, where flood-like conditions have emerged, officials said. In Sawai Madhopur, the situation turned grim after a boat carrying eight villagers overturned in Soorwal dam while they had gone fishing. Locals and rescue teams managed to save seven people, but one remains missing. "Three were pulled out by villagers, while four were rescued by the NDRF. A search operation is still underway for one missing person," district collector Kanaram said. Authorities have urged residents to avoid dam catchment and waterlogged areas. Meanwhile, continuous heavy rainfall submerged Sawai Madhopur railway station, disrupting signal systems and affecting trains bound for Delhi and Mumbai. Five trains were either delayed or halted. Several colonies, including Rajbagh and Mirza Mohalla, were inundated, forcing residents to take shelter on rooftops. Safari operations in Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve have also been suspended. Adding to the crisis, a car carrying 4-5 passengers was swept away in the overflowing Kushali Darra drain on NH-552. One body has been recovered, while search operations continue for the others. In Kota's Sultanpur and Digod areas, floodwaters rose up to 4 feet, submerging entire localities. The Army has been deployed in affected zones, while Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar and district officials visited flood-hit areas, using tractors to reach stranded residents. Relief supplies, including food and essentials, are being dispatched. In view of the heavy rain alert, schools have been declared closed on Saturday. Bundi also witnessed villages cut off from the district headquarters due to overflowing rivers and culverts. In Baran, Kota, Bundi, and Jhalawar, district administrations declared holidays in schools on Friday and Saturday. In Bhilwara's Bijolia area, 166 mm rainfall in 24 hours caused the Panchanpura dam to overflow, sending the Erui river into spate. Jaipur too saw waterlogging in several areas after overnight showers. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to continue in southeast and east Rajasthan for the next three days, with extremely heavy showers likely at isolated spots.
