Mussoorie, May 28 -- Overnight rainfall since Monday till Tuesday have wreaked havoc in Tehri district as rainwater and mud-laden debris entered several homes in New Tehri, damaging household items and forcing residents to evacuate their belongings to safer locations. Two people were killed in a related incident in Tiger Falls in Dehradun's Chakrata. Kuldeep Panwar, a social activist from New Tehri, said, "Areas like Sai Chowk, Baurari Stadium, ITI Road, and especially the Valmiki community's residential colonies, were inundated with rainwater and debris, causing significant property damage." District officials reported that 29 families were affected in Moldhar (Valmiki Basti) as their homes were inundated by debris. In response, the district revenue department opened a relief centre at the Moldhar Valmiki Barat Ghar and provided breakfast to affected families on Tuesday morning. Ex-gratia relief has been distributed to the affected families, along with ration kits. Food arrangements are ongoing at the relief camp in Moldhar, officials confirmed.
