LUCKNOW, May 17 -- Due to the onset of Easterlies, there is a possibility of a drop in temperatures after the next 24 hours, and as a result, the prevailing heatwave conditions are likely to ease from May 18. Rain is likely to visit with thunderstorms the eastern Terai region of the state and is likely to reach western Uttar Pradesh, said Atul Kumar Singh, senior scientist at Lucknow office. Noida received rainfall after a sudden change in weather, a news agency said in a post. A sudden change in weather on Friday afternoon brought much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave in parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Strong winds and a hailstorm lashed the Kushinagar district, while light rain was reported in isolated areas of Maharajganj district, offering a brief respite from soaring temperatures. Weather scientist Kailash Pandey of Gorakhpur said the sudden shift in weather conditions was caused by the pressure build-up from the prevailing heatwave. He added that slight changes in weather may continue until Monday. Due to hot Westerlies some parts of the state saw a rise in day temperatures, especially in the southern part of the state. The temperature crossed the 45deg C mark in most parts of Bundelkhand region and adjoining areas of the state. In eastern Uttar Pradesh, Banda at 46.2degC was the hottest in the country. It was 2.7degC above normal. Heat wave conditions were observed in Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Banda, Jhansi and Hamirpur and hot or warm night conditions were observed in Ghazipur. State forecast is most likely dry over west UP and rain/thundershower very likely at isolated places over the east UP.
