VARANASI, July 12 -- A head constable on Friday allegedly shot himself dead with his service revolver in his living room on the premises of Mehnajpur police station in Azamgarh district on Friday, police said. The 59-year-old man originally hailed from Ballia district, said superintendent of police, rural area, Chirag Jain. He was posted as head clerk in Mehnajpur police station and had been posted here for about nine years. He was to retire in a few months and was transferred to Jaunpur district. His family lives in Ballia and he stayed here alone, said another officer. On Friday morning, he left the residence and went to the market where he had tea and came back to his quarters on the police station premises. Here he allegedly shot himself dead with his service revolver, added the police officer. On information, a police team reached the spot and took the body in possession and sent it for the postmortem examination, said the officer. The family was informed about the incident, but the cause of death could not be ascertained, said the officer. The investigation is underway, said the officer....
