HC: Tag Azam's petition with those filed by other accused
PRAYAGRAJ, June 26 -- The Allahabad high court on Wednesday directed that a fresh petition filed by Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan be tagged with earlier petitions filed by other accused concerning the 2016 forceful eviction case of Rampur. The consolidated trial of the case involves 12 previous separate FIRs against Khan and several other accused persons.
Hearing a petition filed by Azam Khan, Justice Samit Gopal fixed July 3 as the next date of hearing the case.
On June 11, the high court had stayed the passing of any final judgment or order in the consolidated trial of the 2016 case, following concerns over the trial judge's adamant push to conclude proceedings by the end of June.
The case, originating from 12 FIRs registered between 2019 and 2020 at Kotwali police station in Rampur, pertains to an alleged incident on October 15, 2016, involving the demolition of unauthorized structures on waqf property known as Yateem Khana (Waqf no-157)....
