LUCKNOW, May 17 -- The Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court will hear the case regarding the ban on 'Jeth Mela' at the Bahraich Dargah on Saturday. Chief justice Arun Bhansali on Friday constituted a special division bench comprising justices AR Masoodi and Subhash Vidyarthi to hear the case urgently. The petition was filed by the Bahraich Dargah Sharif Management Committee challenging the district magistrate's order, dated April 26, 2025, which denied permission for the fair. Claiming that the denial was against the law, the petitioner requested the court to direct the DM to allow the fair. On Friday, the court denied any interim relief to the petitioner. However, the petitioner requested an urgent hearing, citing the Jeth Mela's scheduled start date of May 18, 2025. The court allowed the petitioner to file an application for an urgent hearing, which was then considered by the chief justice. The state government counsel opposed the petition, arguing that the DM's order was justified. Jeth Mela is an annual event, and denying permission was against the law, argued the petitioner. However, the government counsel contested that the DM's order was justified and the petition should be dismissed. The hearing on Saturday will determine the fate of the fair....
