Lucknow, Sept. 11 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Wednesday stayed further demolition action in connection with the Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University (SRMU) case. The high court also stayed the arrest of persons related to the university in connection with an FIR lodged in the matter. Two separate benches of the high court passed interim orders in this regard on two petitions moved by the SRMU administration, the university's counsel Amit Jaiswal said. In the first plea, directives were sought for a stay on further demolition and other action. The other petition challenged the FIR and sought directives for staying the proposed arrest of persons related to the SRMU, he added. Unauthorised structures within the university were razed on September 6. The action came five days after Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) leaders were lathicharged during a protest outside SRMU on Lucknow-Deva Road in Barabanki on September 1. The university's newly constructed animal house and a guard room near the administrative block were demolished. The Uttar Pradesh State Higher Education Council had lodged an FIR against the SRMU for allegedly running an unrecognised law course. The FIR was lodged by council's additional secretary Dinesh Kumar with Barabanki Kotwali police station under various charges, including dishonestly inducing a person, forgery of documents and fraudulently using a forged document.
