Dehradun, Jan. 16 -- The Uttarakhand high court on Thursday heard a petition seeking a stay on the arrest of accused people and quashing of the FIR registered in connection with the suicide of a farmer from Kashipur, but did not grant any immediate relief and asked the state government to submit a status report by Friday. A bench of justice Ashish Naithani heard the petition filed by Kulwinder Singh and five others, and directed the state to apprise the court about the progress of the investigation. The court has decided to continue the hearing on Friday. During the proceedings, counsel for the petitioners argued that their clients had been falsely implicated and had no direct connection with the incident. They contended that the case arose from a land dispute between two parties and that the farmer had taken his own life. After hearing the arguments, the bench asked the government to provide an updated report before passing any order. A farmer from Kashipur allegedly died by suicide late Saturday night in a hotel in Kathgodam, Haldwani. Before his death, he went live on Facebook and levelled allegations against several people and police officers, including Udham Singh Nagar senior superintendent of police (SSP). Following the incident, police registered a case against 26 persons at the ITI police station based on a complaint filed by the deceased's brother.htc...
