HC seeks report on lokayukta appointment
Dehradun, April 3 -- Uttarakhand High Court has directed the state government to submit a progress report within one week regarding the appointment of a Lokayukta in the state. The matter has been listed for the next hearing on April 8.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and justice Subhash Upadhyay issued the directions on Wednesday while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Ravi Shankar Joshi.
During the hearing, advocate general SN Babulkar informed the bench that a meeting of the search committee for the appointment of the Lokayukta has been scheduled for April 3. The committee is expected to suggest names for the post, after which the state government may take a final decision on the appointment.
Taking note of the submission made by the AG, the bench directed the government to submit a progress report within a week and fixed April 8 as the next date of hearing. The PIL states that the post of Lokayukta in the state has remained vacant for a long period....
