LUCKNOW, Aug. 7 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has granted three weeks' time to the Medical Council of India (MCI) to file its counter affidavit in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking funds and recognition certificates for 13 newly established medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh. A division bench comprising Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Manish Kumar passed the order on August 5 while hearing the public interest litigation filed by local lawyer ML Yadav. The petitioner has urged the court to direct the state and central governments to ensure adequate infrastructure and manpower for autonomous medical colleges in Kushinagar, Kaushambi, Sultanpur, Kanpur Dehat, Lalitpur, Pilibhit, Auraiya, Sonbhadra, Bulandshahr, Gonda, Bijnor, Chandauli, and Lakhimpur Kheri districts. Yadav, who appeared in person, submitted that the National Medical Commission's review committee found a 70% manpower deficiency in these colleges during inspection, leading to the rejection of their applications for recognition. The state government has already submitted its reply in the matter, the petitioner's counsel informed the court.
