HC grants bail to fouraccused in Kasganj murder case
Lucknow, June 26 -- The Lucknow high court on Wednesday granted bail to four convicts - Munazir Rafi, Amir Rafi, Asif Qureshi alias Hitler, and Imran Saifi - in the Chandan Gupta murder case of Kasganj.
These individuals were among the 28 accused sentenced to life imprisonment by a special NIA court in Lucknow for their involvement in the 2018 Kasganj violence during a Tiranga Yatra.
The division bench, comprising Justices Pankaj Bhatia and Kshitij Shailendra, allowed the bail applications of the four convicts while their appeals against the NIA court's verdict are pending.
On January 26, 2018, a Tiranga Yatra was organized in Kasganj to celebrate Republic Day.
A group of armed individuals attacked the procession, resulting in the murder of 20-year-old Chandan Gupta, a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. The attackers allegedly desecrated the national flag, threatened participants.
On January 2, 2025, the NIA court convicted 28 accused, including Salim, Wasim, Naseem, and others, under various sections of the IPC, such as rioting, attempted murder, and murder. The court also imposed fines and additional sentences under the Arms Act on some of the accused....
