LUCKNOW, June 18 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Tuesday provided no relief to the petitioners on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed against proposed cutting of more than 300 trees for the construction of a green corridor from IIM road to Kisan Path in Lucknow. The court directed to list the PIL in the third week of July. A vacation division bench of justice AR Masoodi and justice Subhash Vidyarthi passed the order on the PIL filed by two minor girls through their father Devesh Kumar. The petitioners sought directives to stop cutting of the trees and shifting them to another appropriate place for environmental protection. Opposing the plea, the chief standing counsel (CSC) Shailendra Kumar Singh submitted that the construction of the green corridor in the city is necessary for smooth traffic. The forest department plans to plant more than 3,500 new trees in place of these 300 trees to balance the environment. Shifting of these trees is not possible as they are so old, the CSC added. The court provided no relief to the petitioners and directed to list the PIL in the third week of July for hearing, the CSC said. The officers of the forest department, Lucknow divisional commissioner, DM and LDA were made as opposite party in the PIL.MANOJ KUMAR SINGH...
