PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 7 -- The Allahabad high court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a petition challenging the appointment of government officials as trustees in the Banke Bihari temple of Mathura to August 26. Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal passed the order in response to a petition filed by Pranav Goswami and another, noting that a related matter concerning the issuance of an ordinance is currently pending before the Supreme Court. Earlier, the high court had sought a response from the state government on whether it could appoint government officials as trustees of the Shri Banke Bihari Mandir, a private temple, through the 'Uttar Pradesh Shri Bankey Bihari Ji Temple Trust Ordinance, 2025'. During the hearing on July 21, Sanjeev Goswami, the amicus curiae, had argued that the temple is a private religious institution where rituals and management have historically been overseen by the heirs of Swami Haridas.
