LUCKNOW, Dec. 11 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has observed that the location of a liquor shop directly in front of a temple, across the road at a distance of 25 metres, is "not acceptable". A division bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Indrajeet Shukla passed the order on December 8 on a PIL filed by one Rajesh Kumar Singh, who challenged the opening of the liquor shop in city's Ishwari Kheda area on the grounds that its location violated prescribed norms. Singh sought directions for the removal of the shop from the temple's vicinity. The state counsel informed the court that on a notice to the licensee of the shop selling country liquor, she had sought one month's time to shift it. The court listed the matter for December 19, noting that the time sought by the licensee would expire by then. htc...
