Hazratganj's new traffic system passes VIP, peak-hour test
LUCKNOW, Sept. 4 -- The newly introduced traffic system at Hazratganj crossing underwent its first major review on Wednesday, with officials monitoring movement on the ground and through drone cameras during VIP movement and peak-hour rush. Police said the assessment showed a clear improvement compared to the earlier setup.
According to the traffic department, commuters earlier faced five to seven minutes' wait at signals. Under the new plan, vehicles are moving without traffic lights even during peak traffic and VIP movement. "The system worked smoothly with heavy traffic," an official said after the inspection.
Officials also gathered feedback from commuters. Most said congestion had reduced and travel time had improved, though some admitted adjusting to the new system would take time. "People are used to crossing Hazratganj in a particular way, so this feels unusual. But from a management point of view, it's impressive," a commuter said.
Calling the arrangement a "successful start," DCP traffic Kamlesh Dixit said people have appreciated the move and requested that it continue. He added that the system will be monitored regularly and fine-tuned as required.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at decongesting Lucknow's busiest crossing, where traffic snarls have long troubled commuters. If results remain positive, similar arrangements could be introduced at other major intersections in the city....
