Hathras school manager held in scholarship scam
LUCKNOW, July 6 -- The UP Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Saturday arrested Pawan Kumar, manager of two private schools in Hathras, in connection with a Rs 24-crore scholarship scam involving minority students, confirmed senior officials in a press note.
The alleged fraud, unearthed between 2011 and 2013, involved 62 private schools. Officials said school managers conspired with district minority welfare officers and bank officials to divert funds meant for student scholarships.
The accused, Pawan Kumar, manages Baba Jahar Pir Madrasa and Shiv Charan Inter College. An FIR was filed in 2014, and the case was handed over to the EOW in 2016, according to a senior police officer.
Police said 81 accused were named, and charge sheets have been filed against 31. The then district minority welfare officer was earlier arrested and jailed. The EOW is continuing efforts to arrest the remaining accused.
Similar frauds were reported in other districts. In Meerut, Mohammad Aslam Ali and Furqan Alani were arrested for misusing Rs 21.37 lakh meant for madrassa students....
