LUCKNOW, Aug. 9 -- Some illegal constructions, including shops, in Hussainabad area in the state capital will be demolished to restore the locality's original look, officials said. Property supervisors of the Hussainabad and Allied Trust (HAT) have also been held responsible for failing to inform senior officials when the encroachments were carried out. In a letter, additional city magistrate (V) and HAT secretary Anamika Maurya accused three individuals of carrying out unauthorised construction. She directed that the encroachments on Trust land be removed immediately and action taken be reported within two days, along with an explanation. According to the letter, House No. 71, measuring 341 sq ft on the road near Ghantaghar in Hussainabad, was registered under the Trust and rented out in March 2025 at Rs.5,000 per month. Permission had been granted only to remove a tin shed and install a roof. However, tenants demolished the old shop, rebuilt it without approval and also occupied an additional 255 sq ft of Trust land to construct three shops. Maurya said the alterations were inappropriate and damaged the original character of Hussainabad's heritage properties. She accused HAT property supervisors of failing to act or report the matter, alleging their involvement in the illegal construction. The tenants have been ordered to remove the shops immediately or face forcible demolition, with the cost of the operation to be recovered from them....
