Half a dozen new cancer tests launched at RSM Hospital
LUCKNOW, Dec. 1 -- Ram Sagar Mishra (RSM) Combined Hospital in Sadhamau, Sitapur Road, Lucknow, has started about half a dozen cancer-related tests from Sunday. The new services will benefit a large number of people in the BKT area, the hospital stated in a press release shared with the media.
More than half a dozen tests have been introduced for early cancer detection in rural areas, including Pap smear, CA-125, CA 19-9 and beta-HCG marker. (Beta-HCG is commonly used in pregnancy but is also helpful in detecting choriocarcinoma in women.) The pathology lab operates under the "Spoke-and-Hub" model, inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on May 3. Samples are received from eight community health centres in Lucknow, which are BKT, Itaunja, Aliganj, Gudamba, Mal, Malihabad, Kakori and Janakipuram Trauma Centre, and tested at the hospital, it stated.
High-level tests now available at the hospital include CA-125 for ovarian cancer, CA 19-9 for pancreatic cancer, LH, FSH and prolactin for reproductive hormones, PSA for prostate cancer screening, beta-HCG for pregnancy confirmation and choriocarcinoma detection, insulin tests for blood insulin levels, CK-MB and Troponin-I for cardiac profiling, iron profile, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, viral markers (HIV, HCV, HBsAg) via chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA), Pap smear, urine culture and a full range of routine investigations, the release added. Except for Lucknow's Lok Bandhu Hospital, no other government hospital in the state currently offers cancer testing, it added....
