Shillong, March 16 -- Heavy rainfall and hailstorms since March 13 have affected at least 23 villages and damaged over 4,500 houses in Meghalaya, impacting nearly 19,056 people, a preliminary assessment by the Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority said on Sunday. On Sunday, too, a hailstorm hit West Garo Hills district's Tura town and nearby areas around 3 am.
