LUCKNOW, Nov. 26 -- A cybercriminal hacked a Kakori resident's phone using an APK file and siphoned off nearly Rs.2 lakh through an e-mandate. But prompt intervention by the Kakori Cyber Police Team and Cyber Cell (West) helped recover Rs.1.94 lakh, officials said on Tuesday. The case came to light on October 18, when Mirza Azhar Baig, a resident of Metro Colony, Mughalan Mohalla in Kakori, complained that around Rs.2 lakh had been fraudulently withdrawn from his account. "Police said the fraudster had sent an APK file to the victim's phone, which gave him full access to the device. Using this access, the cybercriminal generated an e-mandate to pull money from the victim's bank account," read a police press note. During the investigation, teams from Kakori police and Cyber Cell West removed the malware-infested APK, froze the victim's bank account, cancelled the illicit e-mandate and ensured that the fraudulent debit was reversed. The recovered amount was credited back in five instalments.htc...
