Guest opens fire at wedding; viral video prompts police probe
LUCKNOW, Dec. 5 -- A video of celebratory firing at a wedding reception in Lucknow's Gudamba area is going viral, prompting police to probe proceedings.
Officials said that celebratory firing at weddings or public events is a punishable offence under the Public Safety Act. If the weapon is licensed, police can seize it and initiate cancellation of the gun licence. In cases where such firing injures or kills someone, the accused can be charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The seven-second undated video is said to be from a club & resort in Kukrail forest and is said to be from a reception function where a large number of guests were present. In the video loud music is playing and several women are seen dancing.
Nearby, a young man in a black suit is seen pulling out a revolver, loading it, and handing it to another guest standing beside him. The second man then raises his hand skywards and fires a shot into the air. Immediately after, a third guest takes the firearm and tucks it away. When the video was tagged to UP Police official X handle, Lucknow police in a statement said that they are analysing the video to establish the identities of the accused.
