Lucknow, Feb. 23 -- A multi-organ donation at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) has benefited several patients and renewed focus on organ donation awareness. The donor, 42-year-old Sandeep Kumar from Lucknow, suffered critical injuries in a road accident on February 7. He was admitted in SGPGIMS on February 21 and declared brain stem dead the next day. With the family's consent, organs were retrieved under the supervision of SOTTO-UP. The liver was transplanted at King George's Medical University (KGMU), while both kidneys were transplanted at SGPGIMS. Corneas were also harvested. This is the first multi-organ donation at SGPGIMS after brain stem death in nearly 20 years. A guard of honour was accorded to the donor in the presence of officials of SGPGIMS and SOTTO-UP.htc...
