Groom, brother-in-law held hostage for 2 days in Pratapgarh, rescued
PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 27 -- A groom and his brother-in-law were allegedly held hostage by the bride's kin for two days after the wedding offering was found to be insufficient. On Wednesday, police arrived at the scene and rescued them. Based on the groom's complaint, the cops filed a case against four people, including the bride's father, and arrested three of them, said officials.
As per reports, the wedding procession of Ram Babu, a resident of Balipur village in Pratapgarh, arrived at the house of Chhotelal Yadav of Tikitamou Kusuvapur on Monday.
Ram Babu's brother-in-law, also from Kusuvapur, had arranged the marriage. Before the wedding rituals, the bride's family allegedly began arguing, stating that the jewellery offered was not enough and refused to perform the wedding. They also held the groom, Ram Babu, and his brother-in-law, Shyam Babu, hostage, and allegedly asked them to reimburse the wedding expenses, said police. The rituals did not take place.
On Wednesday morning, the police arrived at the scene and rescued the groom and his brother-in-law besides taking the girl's father to the police station.
On the complaint of Ram Babu, the police registered a complaint against the bride's father Chhotelal Yadav, brother Pawan and two others. The bride's father Chhotelal, brother Pawan, maternal uncle Harischand were arrested by the police.
SHO of Nawabganj police station Santosh Singh said for keeping the groom and his brother-in-law locked in the house for two days, a report has been filed against four people, including the bride's father, and three people have been arrested so far.
: A woman was allegedly stabbed to death in her house after her children left for school in Pratapgarh. When her younger son returned, he found the body in a pool of blood. The boy informed a neighbour about the incident, after which police officials rushed to the site and conducted preliminary investigations.
As per reports, Santosh Vishwakarma, resident of Station Road, works at his father's shop. The children, aged 15, 11, and 5, left for school around 8am on Wednesday, leaving their mother Manju, 35, alone at home.
The youngest son returned home around 2 pm and found Manju's blood-soaked body.
He informed a neighbour Ravi Prakash, who lived next door, leading to the arrival of police.
SP (Pratapgarh) Deepak Bhukar said the woman was murdered after her children left for school. "CCTV footage shows the husband leaving quickly. All aspects, including the alleged affair of the husband, are being investigated.
A case will be filed and action will be taken once the family members from her parents' home arrive," he added.
A named FIR was filed against four accused on charges of harassment on Tuesday evening, after a woman allegedly committed suicide in Teliyarganj locality of Prayagraj on November 2. The police had earlier stated that the suicide was due to a dispute with her husband, but the deceased's brother accused four people of harassing the woman.
He alleged that laxity of Shivkuti police in the case forced the victim to take the extreme step.
The FIR was registered at Shivkuti police station following a written complaint by a youth from Pratapgarh.
He stated that his sister was harassed by Shubham, Rahul, Nathuram, and Atul on October 28.
When she protested, the accused assaulted her. At that time, the sister filed a complaint at the Shivkuti police station and also informed her parents. However, the police did not take action against the accused, he added.
SHO of Shivkuti police station Rukulpal Singh said the deceased's parents had not made any such allegations at the time.
However, a named FIR has been registered based on the complaint and investigation is underway, he added....
