Green Corridor, infra get Rs.200-crore push
LUCKNOW, May 15 -- The city now awaits a makeover worth Rs 200 crore with the Infrastructure Fund Committee approving a comprehensive plan for the development of a bridge, two dams and a road over bridge (ROB), and several beautification works. Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) would be the implementing agency, an LDA communique said.
At the heart of this plan lies the long-pending Green Corridor project, which will now gain pace with an allocation of around Rs 90 crore. According to LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar, Rs 50 crore has been sanctioned for a dam between Pipraghat and Shaheed Path, while another Rs 15 crore would go into building a new dam near Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cricket Stadium.
Additionally, Rs 10 crore has been set aside for an ROB near Pipraghat railway crossing. Around Rs 15 crore would be used to address technical hurdles such as undergrounding of power lines, utility shifting, stone pitching, demarcation, rotary and signage work, the release stated. LDA would invest Rs 10 crore on horticulture, beautification and a new irrigation system along the Shaheed Path stretch.
Heritage zones would also undergo a transformation with a dedicated fund of Rs 10 crore. LDA also planned to install a musical fountain at Nimbu Park, beautify the stretch from Rumi Gate to the Chhota Imambara entrance, the note said, adding placemaking and streetscaping works worth Rs 4 crore were planned on Hazratganj crossing and its adjoining lanes.
Lakes in the city, including Motijheel, Jamuna and Eldeco, would see conservation and beautification work at Rs 8 crore. LDA would develop a natural park near Laxman Mela Ground at Rs 3 crore. It would also spend Rs 5 cr to restore Rifa-e-Aam Club in Wazirganj to its original form. Amiruddaula Library in Qaiserbagh would soon house a new museum, with Rs 2 crore earmarked for theproject....
