Grand festivities mark Durga Puja across city
India, Sept. 30 -- Durga Puja festivities are in full swing across the city, drawing massive crowds and featuring elaborate rituals. At the Jankipuram Durga Utsav, the celebrations saw an impressive footfall, with as many as eight lakh people visiting on alone, which also featured a dedicated women's wing." The Bengali Club marked the start of the celebrations with traditional fervor. On Shashthi, the sixth day, the puja began with the early morning Chandi Path, followed by Astra-Daan. Devotees were seen decorating the idol of Goddess Durga with the traditional arms and ornaments on Shashthi. On the day of Saptami, the puja commenced with the ritual of the Kola Bou. This was followed by Pushpanjali. The afternoon featured a grand Bhog, where approximately 2,000 people enjoyed the feast. A significant cultural highlight was the dance drama Mahishasura Mardini, performed by local and visiting artistes during the ongoing celebration at the Bengali Club.
