Agra, May 1 -- Samajwadi Party (SP) national general secretary Shivpal Yadav on Wednesday held the state government responsible for repeated attacks on his party's Rajya Sabha member Ramji Lal Suman who had made a controversial remark on medieval Rajput ruler Rana Sanga in March. Yadav was speaking in Agra where he expressed his condolences at the demise of a family member of a party leader and attended two wedding functions before returning to Etawah. "After the first attack at the Agra residence of Ramji Lal Suman in March, the state government should have taken steps for ensuring his safety. Those behind the attack should have been arrested but state government did nothing," Yadav alleged. "The attack in Aligarh (on April 27) was the outcome of this inaction by the state government. We can say now that state government is behind these attacks on Ramji Lal Suman," Yadav said. "The Samajwadi Party will hold a statewide protest on May 1 (Thursday). We will organise 'dharna' (sit in) and hand over memorandums at district headquarters against the attacks," he said. Criticising the Centre on the Pahalgam terrorist attack, Yadav said, "It was an intelligence failure and security lapse. The central government cannot escape responsibility."
