Govt primary teachers to go to secondary schools on deputation?
PRAYAGRAJ, May 11 -- Preparations have begun to deploy teachers working in government-run primary schools on deputation in government secondary schools across the state which are facing acute shortage of teachers.
Deputy secretary, primary education, Anand Kumar Singh, has sent a missive to director-general, school education, Kanchan Verma, in this regard and directed to take the opinion of the basic education department.
The directive orders that an opinion be sought regarding deputation of teachers working in schools running under the control of Basic Education Council of UP against vacant posts of lecturers and assistant teachers (LT grade) in government secondary schools of the state, said officials of the state basic education department. The April 9, 2025 missive, a copy of which is with HT, reads that after the approval of the council of ministers, the secondary education department had earlier issued a government order in this regard on August 21, 2017.
However, after that the matter went into cold storage following the recruitment of LT grade teachers in 2018 and the recruitment of lecturers in 2020 by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission.
Since then, no new recruitment has taken place and due to lack of recruitment of assistant teachers for the last seven years and lecturers for the last five years, more than 9,000 posts of teachers are lying vacant in 2,460 government-run secondary schools of the state, concede officials.
Confirming efforts in this regard, secondary education, additional director (government), Ajay Kumar Dwivedi, said that a proposal to this effect was sent by the directorate of education, Prayagraj to the state government.
Meanwhile, the requisition for recruitment against 7,385 vacant posts of assistant teachers and 1,658 posts of lecturers has already been sent to the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, said officials.
However, to tide over immediate needs, the exercise of deputing government primary school teachers in government secondary schools desperate for teaching faculty members has been started in the interest of students, they explained.
However, what benefits or facilities will be extended to such teachers being sent on deputation is yet to be decided, they conceded....
