Uttarkashi, Aug. 14 -- A high-level government committee on Wednesday undertook a detailed inspection of the flash flood-hit Dharali village in Uttarkashi district, assessing the scale of damage and exploring viable rehabilitation options for the affected Dharali residents left homeless. Officials said the panel, comprising secretary (revenue) Surendra Narayan Pandey, Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA ) chief executive officer Ashish Chauhan, and additional secretary (finance) Himanshu Khurana met disaster-hit families, public representatives, and district officials to gather on-ground inputs. Many residents, whose homes and livelihoods were swept away in the August 5 tragedy, reiterated demands for relocation to safer sites, naming Lanka, Jangla, and Kopang as preferred locations. They also sought that Dharali be rebuilt along the lines of the post-2013 Kedarnath reconstruction. One of the affected people, Kaushik Panwar, highlighted the need for a covered roadside storage facility for apple growers to protect produce from weather and wildlife. District magistrate (DM) Prashant Arya assured the shed would be prioritised as soon as road access was restored.
