Govt announces new names for two villages in Firozabad, Hardoi
Lucknow, Feb. 1 -- Going ahead with its 'name-changing' spree, the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday announced the renaming of two villages, whose names had Mughal connotations, in Firozabad and Hardoi districts.
In Firozabad, Urmura Kirar under the Vasudevmai gram panchayat of Shikohabad tehsil and development block has been renamed Harinagar.
In Hardoi district, gram panchayat Hajipur under the Bharawan development block has been renamed Siyarampur.
The decisions were taken by chief minister Yogi Adityanath, as shared by the Chief Minister's Office on X.
Since the BJP came to power in UP in 2017, and renamed Allahabad as Prayagraj in October, 2018, demands from local residents and their elected representatives to change the names of more districts, cities, towns and villages with Mughal and colonial tag have been raised from time to time.
There are, for example, demands for renaming Agra 'Agravan' Aligarh 'Harigarh', Firozabad 'Chandra Nagar', Sambhal 'Kalki Nagar', and Deoband 'Devvrind'....
