Governing body chief defends principal
PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 20 -- The suspension of the governing body of Rajarshi Tandon Girls' Degree College, a constituent college of Allahabad University (AU), and the suspension and FIR lodged against its principal prof Ranjana Tripathi has taken a new turn.
Raising questions over the university's action, chairperson of the college's governing body, Shashi Tandon, claimed that no prior notice was issued by the AU administration before suspending the governing body. She said the administration merely informed them that the governing body had been suspended on the basis of a complaint.
Defending prof Ranjana Tripathi, Tandon claimed that the principal was not at fault. They were reportedly asked to deposit an additional Rs.5 lakh into the same accounts after receiving their appointment letters and salaries.
Following receipt of these complaints, the vice-chancellor suspended the college's governing body and constituted a high-power committee under the dean, student welfare, to probe the matter. Based on the evidence submitted with the complaints, the registrar requested the registration of an FIR at the Colonelganj police station against prof Tripathi. An FIR was subsequently registered on December 17, as per the VC's directions, the PRO confirmed.
Prof Tripathi has been placed under immediate suspension for administrative and financial irregularities. University officials said the high-power internal committee is expected to submit its report within a month....
