Goswami, Kuldeep guide UP into Vijay Hazare quarters
LUCKNOW, Jan. 7 -- Opener Abhishek Goswami struck a sparkling century and Kuldeep Yadav claimed three wickets to steer former champions Uttar Pradesh into the quarter-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy with a 54-run win over Vidarbha in Rajkot on Tuesday.
Uttar Pradesh topped Elite Group B with 24 points with six straight wins, leaving Vidarbha and Bengal (16 points each) to fight for the second knockout spot. Bengal lost to Hyderabad by 107 runs. Uttar Pradesh will play their last league match against Bengal on Thursday and even if they lose, will remain on top of the table. Vidarbha take on Assam, also on Thursday.
For the fifth time this season, Uttar Pradesh posted a 300-plus total (339/5) after being asked to bat first. Goswami, who is from Delhi, struck his maiden List A century in his 25th appearance for Uttar Pradesh after making his debut in 2018. Vidarbha were restricted to 285/9 in reply.

Jurel, coming in at No.3, struck a 61-ball 56 and his dismissal in the 14th over didn't make any difference to Goswami, who continued to hit all around the field at the Niranjan Shah Stadium Ground C. The pair raised 90 runs for the second wicket with Jurel, ignored for the upcoming home ODI series against New Zealand, reminded the national selectors of his ability with his fifth List A half-century.
