GORAKHPUR, Oct. 7 -- In a shocking incident on Monday morning, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her brother in what appears to be a case of hate crime in Gorakhpur district. According to police, the accused, Aditya Yadav, 22, was enraged over his younger sister Nitya Yadav's love affair. Nitya, a Class 12 student, was allegedly pushed into a canal near Bhaura Bari village under the Campierganj police station area, leading to her death by drowning. The incident sent shockwaves through the area on Monday afternoon. Acting swiftly on information, police arrested Aditya Yadav and recovered the victim's body, which has been sent for postmortem. Campierganj SHO Rakesh Roshan said, "Initial inquiry suggests it to be a case of hate crime. The deceased was reportedly in a relationship with a boy from another village, which her family had opposed. The accused has confessed to his crime." In his confession, Aditya told police that Nitya had gone out of the house on Monday morning for some work. He followed her and confronted her near the canal. During the heated argument, he lost his temper and pushed her into the water, causing her death. After committing the crime, Aditya reportedly dragged his sister's body about 2.5 kilometers away and dumped it in a paddy field before returning home. Later, he called the police himself and confessed, saying, "I have killed my sister." SP North Jitendra Kumar said, "The father of the accused, Amarjeet Yadav, had died two years ago. Aditya was the only earning member of the family. Based on the complaint filed by the victim's mother, a case has been registered and further investigation is underway." Police stated that the accused admitted to being upset over his sister's relationship and has been taken into custody. All necessary legal proceedings are being carried out....
