LUCKNOW, June 25 -- The King George's Medical University's (KGMU) doctors and staff members have set an exemplary standard of care for abandoned patients. They not only treat them, but thereafter, also unite them with their families. Since 2011, they have treated and reunited over 200 such destitutes and over 500 patients were treated successfully free of cost. In one such case, a pregnant Rina Devi, who was severely injured in a road accident in November 2024, was brought to the KGMU's Trauma Centre by the police. Alongside was her minor daughter, with no other family members. The medical team, led by Dr Yajendra Dhaur, not only provided treatment to the woman but also took care of her minor daughter for five months. The woman delivered a baby at the KGMU hospital, but it could not be saved. "Throughout this period, junior doctors went the extra mile to support the woman and her daughter, even covering additional medical expenses," said Dr KK Singh, media cell in-charge of KGMU. In the first week of March, the medical team escorted the woman back home with the help of the local police station in Mankapur, in Gonda district. In another case of an abandoned patient, Dr KK Singh explained that the KGMU doctors and staff helped an unidentified woman. "The woman, who was brought to the Trauma Centre on December 12, 2024, in an unconscious state, was treated and cared for by the medical team. After regaining consciousness, the woman was only able to provide a partial address, mentioning "Jyoti Nagar, Lucknow." Chief medical superintendent prof BK Ojha initiated an investigation, which revealed that the woman resided in the Mohanlalganj area, specifically as an inmate of Missionaries of Charity sisters in Jyoti Nagar, which provides shelter to leprosy patients, he said. Later KGMU staff escorted her to the home, Dr KK Singh added. Dr Singh also elaborated on the incident of 2023, in which the doctors and staff at KGMU reunited a patient Jeet Bahadur Bhujal, a native of Nepal, with his family, who had been brought to the Trauma Centre in a coma....
