Gkp completes 27 major river embankment projects
GORAKHPUR, May 11 -- In a significant relief for residents of Gorakhpur, 27 major flood protection and river embankment strengthening projects have been completed ahead of the monsoon season.
The projects, valued at Rs.119 crore, continuous supervision of chief minister Yogi Adityanath and executed by flood division-2.
Historically prone to severe flooding due to its location surrounded by four rivers, Gorakhpur has made significant strides in disaster preparedness. The timely completion of projects on the Ghaghra, Rapti, Rohin, Kuwano, and Turra Nala rivers marks a transformative chapter in the region's struggle against seasonal floods.
Chief engineer Vikas Singh of the irrigation department informed that the projects were executed under the supervision of the flood division, flood division-2, and the drainage division. The projects primarily focussed on embankment strengthening, erosion control, and river channel management.
"These efforts will benefit people living across seven flood-prone assembly constituencies - Gorakhpur Rural, Chauri Chaura, Khajni, Bansgaon, Sahjanwa, Campierganj, and Chillupar," Singh stated.
