Gkp authorities on high alert, traffic restrictions in force for three days
GORAKHPUR, Oct. 1 -- Authorities have stepped up security measures ahead of the grand Shobha Yatra to be led by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on the occasion of Dussehra, October 2.
The procession will begin from Gorakhnath Temple and till the Ramlila Ground.
On Tuesday, the CM's security team along with district police held a review meeting at the Gorakhnath Police Station. DIG Dr S Channappa, along with other senior officers, inspected the proposed route and directed officials to remain on high alert.
SSP Gorakhpur Raj Karan Nayar said drone and CCTV surveillance would be in place for the next three days to ensure foolproof monitoring around the Gorakhnath Temple and during idol immersion processions.
Ground-to-air security arrangements have also been made.
Five welcome gates have been erected along the procession route.
For idol immersion, 16 designated ghats have been identified, including Rajghat, Gola Ghat, Badhara, Matiyara, and Gaurighat.
Police personnel will also be deployed on rooftops and balconies to monitor crowds.
Additional forces have been stationed at sensitive locations, and route rehearsals and inspections have already been conducted. To prevent congestion, four-wheelers will not be allowed on the Shobha Yatra routes.
A traffic diversion plan has also been enforced in the city.
The new arrangements will remain effective from September 30 to October 1, daily between 5 PM and 2 AM. Heavy vehicles from outside districts will not be permitted to enter the city and will instead be diverted through alternative routes.
According to SP Traffic Sanjay Kumar, vehicles coming from Lucknow, Basti, and Sant Kabir Nagar will be diverted via Kalesar-Jungle Kaudiya to the Bargadwa four-lane road.
Trucks from Varanasi towards Barhalganj will use the bypass routes.
Tankers from Deoria will move via Khorabar bypass to Naukaayan through Paidleganj Road.
Within the city, diversions will be in place at major congestion points, including Paidleganj, Hanuman Mandir bypass, Zoo Road, and TP Nagar....
