LUCKNOW, May 11 -- The two-day cardiologists' seminar at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMILMS) was inaugurated on Saturday, with the first lecture focussed on 'the importance of physical activity'. The IACTS (Indian Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons) Technocollege CME (continued medical education) of 2025, aims to equip aspiring cardiac surgeons with essential skills and knowledge, showcasing the latest scientific breakthroughs in the field, along with demonstrations, and hands-on skills training as well. The CME was organised jointly by the department of community medicine and the department of cardiology. In his inaugural speech, director of RMLIMS, Dr CM Singh said that in today's era, people have adopted a sedentary lifestyle, due to which many diseases are born. Dr Bhuvan Tiwari from the department of cardiology pointed out, "Heart diseases are not limited to the elderly only. Their increasing trend among the youth warns us to give priority to physical activity." In her address at the seminar, lifestyle medicine expert Dr Vineeta Singh gave a lecture on nutrition and physical activity for people of all ages and shared international research papers on the same, while Dr Sunil Dutt Kandpal, head of the department of community medicine, underlined the role of regular physical activities not only in physical but also in mental health for the students in attendance. Special guest speaker Dr Narsingh Verma mentioned global reports related to healthy lifestyle and physical activity, calling it essential for world health.
